Building Drought Resilience

Building Drought Resilience in Isiolo County through Sustainable Livelihoods

The project addresses the vulnerability of pastoralist and agro-pastoralists from the majority of Isiolo County (Kenya) impacted by drought and unpredictable rainfall which lead to reduced crop yields, low livestock productivity, high livestock mortality, low income and food and nutrition insecurity. The initiative contributes towards increased resilience to droughts and other negative impact of climate change for vulnerable groups and reduce the number of working children under 5 years.

The adopted approach encompasses human health, animal health and environmental interventions, together with the creation/facilitation of a common platform for coordinating at institutional level and sharing good practice.
The action delivers a wide range of social and technical support to pastoralists and agro-pastoralists covering pasture rangeland management, fodder, animal husbandry and veterinary support, animal products enterprise development and climate information, complemented by capacity building, economic empowerment and livelihood diversification.

Within this project, E4Impact is in charge of the provision of capacity building to livestock farmers on entrepreneurship, management and sustainable revenues creation.
