Theory of change

The Theory of Change (ToC) is a methodology that outlines how an organization plans to achieve its impact mission. It provides a clear framework for understanding the causal pathways through which change occurs, demonstrating how inputs, activities, outputs, and outcomes—based on key assumptions—lead to the desired impact.

The Theory of Change serves as the foundation for E4Impact’s Impact Management System, providing a strategic framework for monitoring and enhancing the effectiveness of its activities in supporting African entrepreneurs. The Theory of Change chart below illustrates the impact strategy adopted by the Foundation.

Our mission is to enhance the African entrepreneurial ecosystem by enabling the growth of small and medium-sized businesses and by empowering entrepreneurs in small-scale organizations, which may be startups or subsistence entrepreneurs.

Through coordinated efforts and tailored initiatives, the Foundation supports the development of business ideas and enterprises step-by-step: beginning at the individual level by strengthening entrepreneurial mindsets and skills and advancing toward the creation of sustainable enterprises capable of expanding their impact both locally and globally.

The ToC is applied to each of the 4 main activities of E4Impact. By acting on different levels of intervention and involving various target beneficiaries, the Foundation carries out its mission of strengthening the African entrepreneurial ecosystem.
