Location: mainly online, plus 5 residential weeks in 18 months (3 in Italy, 2 in Africa)

E4Impact, POLIMI Graduate School of Management and Politecnico di Milano offer a unique Blended Master in African Innovation Leadership (AIL), a high-level training initiative aimed at strengthening local innovation ecosystems and entrepreneurship in sub-Saharan Africa.

The program is financially supported by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and it’s free of charge for the participants. The Master program offers a unique opportunity to harness leadership skills, ignite entrepreneurial spirit, and inspire and connect innovation actors.

The classroom will consist of 40 participants who must be from Côte D’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Senegal e Tanzania.They should be either innovation managers leading research programmes and innovation partnerships or entrepreneurs from emerging African innovative companies.

AIL program focuses on three main objectives:

  • promoting entrepreneurship among young generations;
  • enhancing the innovation management capabilities of academic institutions;
  • developing multisectoral partnerships for innovation.

Designed to cultivate visionary leaders, AIL combines cutting-edge academic instruction with real-world applications. Participants will engage with distinguished faculty members, field experts, and successful entrepreneurs. AIL curriculum is crafted to address the dynamic, fast-paced nature of innovation, covering essential topics such as strategic business development, technology management, social entrepreneurship, and sustainable practices.

AIL Master offers advanced training in innovation management and entrepreneurship, with a focus on key African sectors such as agribusiness, energy, sustainability, circular economy, manufacturing and digitalization.

Participants will have the opportunity to acquire both practical and theoretical skills, contributing to sustainable development and economic growth in their home countries.

The Blended formula

The Master in African Innovation Leadership helps professionals and executives, combining entrepreneurial and innovation management attitudes and abilities with classical analytical-managerial skills.

Over 18 months, Master participants attend online lectures (from April 2025 to February 2026, excluding Summer and Winter holidays) every Monday and Wednesday afternoon. Monday online class will be mainly devoted to the topic introduction, while Wednesday will be dedicated to practical learning, case and project based.

Group activities and peer-learning will be the main teaching approach.

Project work and Tutoring

Other than having the chance to interact with professors, managers, consultants and experts throughout the programme, participants will be able to develop a practical Project Work or business development plan to contributing to the growth of their organization and to the prosperity and sustainable development of their country.

An academic tutor from the organizing institutions will provide methodological support during the Project Works or business development plans.

Master Core Courses

Core Courses aim to lay the foundations of innovation and entrepreneurship. Participants will learn the interpretative frameworks and tools needed by today’s leader to understand the future direction.

Admissions

The Master in African Innovation Leadership (AIL) is devoted to African professionals and executives who want to boost their knowledge while still meeting all their work commitments. Specifically, prospective applicants must:

  • come from one of the following sub-Saharan African Country: Côte D’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, Tanzania;
  • have, at least, 2-3 years of working experiences in a job position close to the targeted audience (young entrepreneurs active in innovative companies/start-ups, innovation ecosystem managers);
  • held a Bachelor of Science, or more;
  • have English proficiency.

Applications will be open from 15 February to 15 March 2025.

At the end of the course, participants will be awarded a:

  • Master Diploma from POLIMI Graduate School of Management;
  • 1st level University Master degree from Politecnico di Milano (60 ECTs).
