Pan-African Academic Workshops 2017

A pan-African initiative to empower our MBA Programs

Among the activities of E4Impact, the implementation of Academic Workshops for all the professors is certainly the one that gives more evidence of the pan-African address of the Foundation.

Every year the Stream Leader and Stream Tutor of the 5 academic areas of the MBA (Strategy, Finance, Marketing, Human Resources and Operations) meet for a 3-days workshop with all the professors coming from the partner universities. While the Stream Leader is a professor that coordinates all the courses around a single subject; the Stream Tutor coordinates the relationship among all professors.

The aim of the Academic Workshops is to share the knowledge among the professors and to empower every participant with new contents, case-studies and innovative teaching methodologies. Aligning everyone on the course materials provided by the Stream Leader and adapting the course materials to the local needs is also part of the agenda of the workshop.

These activities help to create a strong pan-African Network of scholars
and increase the effectiveness of the teaching, making the MBA much more impactful.

Each workshop is organized with a brief introduction to refresh the course structure and learning objectives and to revise the slides and other supporting materials. The professors then discuss the teaching methodology and possible local case-studies to be included in the materials. Everyone generally provides a presentation and an example of class session. Presentations, feedbacks and Q&A sessions are used to work on the course implementation, focusing on teaching styles.

As Stream Tutor of Marketing, I assisted professor Renato Fiocca (Marketing Stream Leader from Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore of Milan) during the Marketing workshop hosted at at the Tangaza University College of Nairobi (Kenya). Besides us, there where 8 marketing professors from Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Ghana, Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire. It was a great opportunity for the improvement on the materials, especially for some case-studies identified, to be customized in each Country. We also created a strong group: all the Professors appreciated a lot the interaction with other scholars, both from an academic and a human point of view. The workshop closed with a beautiful dinner all together.

I also coordinated the Human Resource Workshop in Dakar (Senegal) at ISM with professor Daniela Isari in July 2017. Also there the improvements were incredible in terms of course developments, teaching notes and supporting materials identified.

Overall, I must say that involving about 30 Professors in 5 areas at a pan-African level ensures the high-quality of the MBA thanks to the knowledge-sharing among the countries, which is a core for the Mission of E4Impact. I’m really satisfied of this experience, it’s enriching!
